Yoga is not a religion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As we\u2019ve already discussed, yog is more than <em>just <\/em>exercises.\u00a0 It can more accurately be described as a way of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_3202-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"What Is Yoga\u2026And What Yoga Is Not\" class=\"wp-image-1377\" style=\"width:649px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_3202-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_3202-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_3202-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_3202-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_3202-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This may lead you to believe that yoga is a religion.\u00a0 I personally do not view yog as a religion, and most people agree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are some reasons why.\u00a0 In yoga, there is:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>No assertion or denial of a God or deity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>No creed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>No rituals that must be completed in order to label yourself a yogi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>No church<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>No prayers (although there are meditative mantras).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Many different religious followers (Christians, Jews, Jains, Hindus) practice yoga despite their different religious beliefs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I like to think of yoga as a spiritual practice rather than a religious practice. &nbsp; Of course, there are many different opinions of this.&nbsp; If you feel uncomfortable practicing yoga because of your religion, inquire with your own religious leader on their thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:25px\">2. When we want something, we want it now. That\u2019s what microwaves, canned foods, Internet downloads, and telephones have done to the human psyche. They\u2019ve made us believe that quick and fast is more than normal \u2013 it\u2019s expected. Yoga is about the opposite. It\u2019s about slowing things down, enjoying them for what they are, and accepting whatever pace they may contain. Experience this transformative approach at a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/himalayanyogashram.com\/yoga-and-meditation-retreat-in-rishikesh.html\">Yoga Retreat in Rishikesh<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>However, what\u2019s ironic about this \u2013 is that by slowing it down, but enjoying each moment, and by being consistent \u2013 you will become a healthier and less-stressed person \u2013 which most likely will lead to weight loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:25px\">3.\u00a0 Yoga is not easy (but it IS worth it)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Like all things worth doing \u2013 practicing yog is not easy.\u00a0 As a beginner \u2013 you\u2019ll likely find many of the poses challenging (but ALWAYS doable if you are patient if you follow the steps and remain patient)!\u00a0 There are days where you will be sore, you\u2019ll be resistant to practice, you\u2019ll be tired, or you may even be bored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Meditation, although not physically difficult, can be by far the hardest thing you\u2019ve ever done.\u00a0 As Westerners, we have a hard time waiting in line at the grocery store \u2013 let alone sitting in a somewhat uncomfortable position with our eyes closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/New-Project-6-1024x512.png\" alt=\"What Is Yoga\u2026And What Yoga Is Not\" class=\"wp-image-1374\" style=\"width:688px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/New-Project-6-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/New-Project-6-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/New-Project-6-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/New-Project-6-1536x768.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.himalayanyogashram.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/New-Project-6.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And practicing Pranayama can be extremely difficult.&nbsp; So much so, that I will always advice you to got SLOWLY and especially I advise against the beginner practicing Pranayama alone.&nbsp; If done improperly, there can be dangerous side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the payoffs of a regular yog practice will follow you for the rest of your life.\u00a0 You will feel mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy.\u00a0 You may even begin to see things from a different, calmer perspective.\u00a0 If kept up, you will start to notice things going differently in your life.\u00a0 Small things, but always for the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Conclusion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Yog is a profound practice that goes beyond physical exercise.
